Sarah
When God created heaven and earth
And planned to people it with man,
He knew the need for leaders–
Mighty men to blaze the trail for all
And govern with brawn and brain and stand tall.
He saw the need for workers
Who would toil to build the dreams
Their leaders dreamed–who’d strive
To follow faithfully the winding way
That others went, and serve, from day to day.
He saw the need for “daisies” too–
For those who “toil not, neither do they spin.”
And yet are precious in His Plan–
Those who blossom forth in pain
and fight for life and breath
And patiently endure, for each day’s joy,
the taste of death.
He saw the purpose for your daisy too
And let her come to blossom in your love.
He knew that Sarah’s patient loving smile
Would perfume all your days and help you see
Miracle in Life and Promise in Eternity.

*Sarah was my little student for a very short while before she returned home to her Father in Heaven. At her funeral, the speaker commented several times that her life had no purpose. I came home and wrote this poem for her. |
